Five Programs in Stevenson’s School of Education Receive National Accreditation

July 28, 2025

Five programs in Stevenson University’s School of Education have been accredited by the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP).

The accreditation applies to Stevenson’s initial teacher preparation programs—the Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education, the Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, the Bachelor of Science in Middle School Education, the Master of Arts in Teaching in Early Childhood Education, and the Master of Arts in Teaching in STEM.

“At Stevenson’s School of Education, we offer rigorous, student-centered programs that combine strong academic preparation with real classroom experiences starting in the very first year,” Dr. Beth Kobett, Dean of the School of Education at Stevenson University. “Earning national accreditation from AAQEP affirms our undergraduate and graduate education programs’ exceptional quality and our deep commitment to preparing reflective, inclusive, and innovative educators.”

Founded in 2017, the AAQEP is a membership association and quality assurance agency that offers accreditation services and formative support to all types of educator preparation providers. The organization promotes excellent, effective, and innovative educator preparation that is committed to evidence-based improvement and enjoys a high degree of community engagement and public confidence.

AAQEP is nationally recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, and its membership includes over 200 educator preparation providers in 33 states and territories and 2 foreign countries.

“This recognition celebrates our strengths-based approach, the close school partnerships we have built and continue to build, and the support we provide to future teachers positioned to make a meaningful and positive impact in their classrooms,” said Dr. Kobett.

Founded in 1947, Stevenson University today serves more than 3,700 students on our 200-acre campus in Owings Mills, Maryland; online through Stevenson University Online; and through our doctoral program in Clinical Psychology. Stevenson is driven by a commitment to meet students where they are and to help them get where they want to be by providing exceptional experiences in and out of the classroom; a close-knit, supportive community; and career connections that prepare them for success in their professional lives.
