Mount St. Mary’s University had four programs earn perfect scores in the latest four-year Academic Progress Rates (APR), announced by the NCAA earlier this week. The Mount’s men’s golf, women’s cross country, women’s swimming and diving, and women’s tennis teams all had a perfect multiyear APR scores of 1,000.
The Mount’s single-year athletic department score was 986 while the four-year average score is 989. Thirteen of the Mount’s 21 evaluated programs earned a perfect single-year score of 1,000 in 2023-24. Five of the Mount’s programs scored in the top 25 percent of all programs in the nation, eight were in the top 50 percent, and nine of the 19 MAAC-sponsored sports placed in the top five of participating schools in that sport.
The APR (Academic Progress Rate), created to provide more of real-time measurement of academic success than graduation success rates offer, is a team-based metric where scholarship student-athletes earn one point each term for remaining eligible and one point for staying in school or graduating. Schools that don’t offer scholarships track their recruited student-athletes. The multiyear APR reflects NCAA Division I APR data submitted by schools for the 2020-21 through 2023-24 academic years.
