Loyola senior Lily Tiger, ’24, was recently awarded a prestigious Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to teach English in Greece next year. The Fulbright U.S. Student Program facilitates cultural exchange provided in more than 135 countries around the world through opportunities to engage in research in a foreign country or teach English for students of various age groups.
“The Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship is the perfect opportunity for Lily Tiger to build upon her Loyola education and pursue her dream of becoming a teacher,” said Terre Ryan, Ph.D., associate professor of writing and director of national fellowships. “Loyola is so proud of Lily, who is a wonderful example of living Loyola’s mission to learn, lead, and serve in this diverse and changing world.”
The teaching assistantship aligns with Tiger’s career goal of becoming an English teacher and enables her to return to the country where she studied abroad as a Greyhound.
“I applied for the Fulbright opportunity because it felt right. I’m most excited to be back in a country that I love and start a career doing something that I love,” said Tiger, an English major and business minor originally from Annapolis, Maryland.
Also as an undergraduate, Tiger interned at the Center for Community, Service, and Justice, co-directed a creative writing and public speaking club at a local elementary school, and participated on intramural soccer and lacrosse teams.
Upon returning from Greece, Tiger anticipates earning her Master of Arts in Teaching at Loyola.
Tiger is the latest Fulbright recipient at Loyola University Maryland, which was recently honored on the list of U.S. colleges and universities that produced the most Fulbright students for the 2023-2024 academic year.
