Baltimore 3-D printing company Jimmi is the first member and partner at Open Works, the city's upcoming makerspace.
Baltimore Arts Realty Corp.'s $11 million, 34,000-square-foot Open Works is under construction and on schedule to open this fall. The converted warehouse at 1400 Greenmount Ave. will have 142 micro studios, each about 50 square feet, amenities like storage lockers and makerspace workshops for members to use.
Jimmi, which was launched by Maryland Institute College of Art graduates Harrison Tyler and Evan Roche, manufactures 3-D printers kits and runs two-day workshops that teach people how to put together a printer using the kit. Jimmi will begin holding workshops at Open Works this fall. The company will use Open Works' workshops to manufacture its 3-D printer kits.
