Johns Hopkins University’s Applied Physics Laboratory has been the hidden mastermind behind some of the nation’s most influential technologies for 73 years.
Now the Howard County institution is going deeper into the medical world, while maintaining its foothold in national security and space exploration projects.
“We’re kind of gently stepping out and extending our footprint,” said Director Ralph Semmel. “We do a lot of work that is sensitive, and so there is a lot that we don’t really talk about. But there’s a lot of work that we can talk about, and we’re just kind of testing the waters to see how things go.”
Semmel presented several of the organization's ongoing projects at the BWI Business Partnership’s May Signature Breakfast on Thursday at the Hilton Baltimore BWI Airport Hotel.
