One of the oldest private colleges in Maryland, McDaniel College is ranked as one of the selective national liberal arts colleges by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. From its beginnings, McDaniel College offered entrance to all students without regard to race, religion, gender, or national or ethnic origin. It became the first coeducational college south of the Mason-Dixon Line, and one of the first coeducational colleges in the nation. McDaniel College is one of 40 liberal arts colleges recognized in Loren Pope’s book, Colleges that Change Lives.
