Hood Music Instructor Chosen to Lead United States in D-Day Celebrations in France

Instructor of Music and Director of Choral Activities and Choral Conducting Lynn Staininger has been selected to lead the Choral Arts Society of Frederick (CASF) in their representation of the United States in D-Day commemoration ceremonies held in Normandy, France from June 3-7. The CASF was chosen to represent the U.S. by Historic Programs, a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring veterans and educating younger generations.

McDaniel students Javon Spencer and Tasir Money, who are involved in McDaniel’s Program in Innovation and Entrepreneurship, participated in the sixth annual Carroll County Hackathon, a tech-based pitch competition presented by the Mid-Atlantic Gigabit Innovation Collaboratory (MAGIC), on Saturday, Feb. 25. MAGIC is a nonprofit organization that works to spur tech and entrepreneurial activity in Carroll County.

St. John's College Announces Opening of the Elizabeth Myers Mitchell Art Museum

St. John’s College today announced that the Elizabeth Myers Mitchell Art Museum will reopen to the public on February 17. The museum closed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and for the past three years has offered online-programming while the surrounding space underwent renovations. The newly renamed Mitchell Art Museum, previously known as the Mitchell Gallery, is the only art museum in Anne Arundel County accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, and one of only five to be accredited in the state of Maryland.

Goucher College Launches New Campus Master Plan

Goucher College has launched its new Campus Master Plan (CMP), which envisions the future of the 287-acre campus over the next 15 years and proposes a more student-centered, accessible, and sustainable vision for Goucher’s future. Leading up to Goucher’s 150th anniversary in 2035, this new plan considers the evolving needs of students, faculty, staff, and the surrounding community. The plan is the first comprehensive assessment of Goucher’s campus in almost 30 years.

Announcing the Rollins-Luetkemeyer Scholars Program at Stevenson University

Stevenson University is pleased to announce the Rollins-Luetkemeyer Scholars program for students from middle-income families. Recognizing the need to address the college affordability gap for middle-income students and families, the Rollins-Luetkemeyer Foundation, Inc., has pledged $250,000 in matching funds to support Stevenson’s fundraising for the scholarship program. Stevenson is now launching a fundraising campaign to help start the scholarship program for Fall 2023’s entering class.

Grant to fund Loyola training supporting people with disabilities

Two faculty associates in Loyola University Maryland’s Center for Equity, Leadership, and Social Justice in Education received a $197,715 grant to educate and train supervisors at Maryland correctional facilities in best practices for interacting with incarcerated people who have developmental disabilities. The pilot training program, “LEADing to Learn,” will increase the supervisors’ awareness of how to engage with people with developmental disabilities and establish a model for future trainings.

Stevenson University Nursing Programs Achieve 10-Year CCNE Accreditation

Stevenson University is pleased to announce that the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) has certified the accreditation of Stevenson’s baccalaureate and graduate nursing programs for 10 years, which is the maximum term possible. CCNE accreditation applies to all of the University’s nursing programs: the Bachelor of Science Pre-Licensure program for traditional undergraduates; the RN-to-BS Nursing and Nursing Associate-to-Bachelor’s programs; and the Master’s in Nursing and graduate certificate programs.

Puerto Rican Students Excelling in NDMU’s School of Pharmacy

There are approximately 1,500 miles between Puerto Rico and Notre Dame of Maryland University’s campus. Despite that distance, however, Puerto Ricans currently make up 15 to 20 percent of the current student population in NDMU’s School of Pharmacy, as personalized outreach from faculty and staff helped form a connection with the small Caribbean island which continues to grow stronger by the year.
