McDowell Hall is the centerpiece of St. John’s College, dominating a small hill above Annapolis and nearby campus buildings.

The 276-year-old, Georgian-style brick structure recently had a major interior face-lift. From the basement or lower level to the octagonal classroom on the top floor, which is the base for the cupola, the great hall has been rebooted to handle the needs of today’s students.

The $5 million project, funded in part by donations, commenced in July and was completed in March.

The building was repainted and plaster was repaired throughout. The pine plank flooring was refinished or replaced.
