Podcast: MICA president on growth, new degree programs

The Baltimore Business Journal

June 12, 2017

MICA is growing — literally — to new heights.

The Maryland Institute College of Art is working on a number of real estate projects that is going to increase its footprint in the city.

It's taking space in the former home of RK&K that it purchased last summer, moving and upgrading its bookstore and constructing a new classroom building off Dolphin Street in Mount Vernon that will house two new degree programs.Samuel Hoi, president of the private arts college, said it's no accident that all of these projects are coming together at one time. It's all part of a master plan put forward by his predecessor Fred Lazarus IV, who stepped down from the job in 2014 after a 36-year run.

On this week's episode of the BaltBizCast, Hoi talks about his strategy to expand the university, and how he is working to better intertwine the school with Baltimore's thriving arts community.
