St. John's College received the largest single donation in school history this weekend – twice.
Alumni Ron Fielding, a 1970 graduate, and Warren Spector, a 1981 graduate, announced they would each give $25 million to the college during the school's Board of Visitors and Governors meeting in Annapolis on Saturday.
The largest share of the combined $50 million gift will go toward the college's endowment, where it will support academics, financial aid and career services, the college said in a press release Saturday. It will be used to strengthen the (school's) program and make sure that all students who want to attend St. John's can afford to do so, the college said.
A smaller portion will be designated for the college's annual fund, ensuring future donations are protected as "long-term investments," the college said.
