A festival that has attracted world-renowned women such as Nobel Prize laureates Malala Yousafzai and Leymah Gbowee is coming to Baltimore this weekend to celebrate women in Charm City and to discuss barriers to gender equality in the region.
started in London in 2011, the Women of the World festival, or WOW, has drawn more than 1 million women to its events held in the United States and around the world in Australia, Egypt, India, Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
Baltimore held a WOW festival, hosted by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, in 2012. Following the civil unrest in April 2015, officials at the Notre Dame of Maryland University, as the only women’s college in Maryland, saw an opportunity to facilitate discussion of local women about ways to improve and celebrate Baltimore.
