Stevenson University officially opened its new 200,000-square-foot academic center at its Owings Mills North campus on Tuesday, naming it after outgoing President Kevin Manning.
The renovations and construction for the center began two years ago after Stevenson acquired the 28-acre former Shire Pharmaceuticals site in Owings Mills in late 2011. The complex included an 18,000-square-foot administrative building and 170,000-square-foot manufacturing building in November 2011.
The manufacturing building was expanded and a second and third floor were added to create the new Kevin J. Manning Academic Center. The renovations tripled the amount of space available to the three schools housed in the former Shire site. The schools are for sciences, design and nursing and health professions. The added space will allow Stevenson to bring in more students and also expand its existing programs in the three schools.
